Ruhr District Tour 16 Entrepreneur mansions in Mülheim
Just 150 years ago Mülheim was the Ruhr district's biggest and most important town. Companies were founded and entrepreneurs settled here, of course in adequate domicils. Until the end of the imperial period more than 80 entrepreneur mansions emerged far more than in any other city in the Ruhr district. Not only mansion streets arose but complete quarters as well as a garden city for entrepreneurs were planned, the latter object placed scenicly in a forest.
Starting at Mülheim main station this tour leads on a scenic route across the Kahlenberg hill to the other side of the Ruhr to Saarn, through the Broich-Speldorf Forest and via Castle Styrum back to the inner city. En route on this ca. 25-30 km long circuit you see all important maintained entrepreneur mansions of the city as well as other representative residences.
To master this tour you don't have to show top sports performances. Rather we act upon the slogan "The journey is the reward". We will have breaks at many places and you will receive competent explanations about the buildings on the way. During this bike tour you will visit the castles Broich and Styrum as well as the Monastery Saarn and inspect some residences of the families Thyssen, Stinnes and Coupienne.
You may take part with a bike of your own or you may lend one at the local bicycle station.
If you like a visit to the newly opened entrepreneur museum can be added (extra time 1 hour, extra cost 40 €).
